From tree to table! A hybrid legacy tree on the property produces a mix of McIntosh, Honey Crisp, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious apples. In Fall 2021 there was a bumper crop. I am grateful to the person who planted and grafted the tree many years ago. 100+ gallons of these beautiful, naturally sweet apples were donated to the Community and the rest were made into organic applesauce that tasted like apple pie filling (no sugar added, just cinnamon and nutmeg). The Apple Project required harvesting thousands of apples in one season. Was it exhausting? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes! A future goal is to utilize enzymes and stem cells from the apples in skincare products, but for now they will be consumed as part of a healthy diet.
